The band leaves California today, heading to a gig in Eugene with fellow punk rockers, D.O.A. The band’s website explains that lead singer “Dave Dictor expresses his animal rights, gay rights, transgender rights, pro-racial equality and anti-capitalist convictions.”Īlong with Dictor, the band currently includes Mike Smith on bass, Bill Collins on guitar and Jesse Cobb on drums. “The war on animals is the real Holocaust that our society is not addressing right now, that’s just one of our messages.”ĭictor is staunch vegetarian, inspired by his mother to become one years ago. “That the Eureka chief of police said we were racists or cop haters is not understanding the political satire that we do,” Dictor explained. ![]() He explained that the band just returned stateside from a 24-stop tour through Asia, “You can’t live in this world if you have a problem with people with who are different or who don’t have your skin color,” he said. “We are satirical and political and we make our point with words.” “We are not calling for the death of police,” Dictor said. In response to the chief’s concerns Dictor said, “It’s easy to make silly comparisons, to overreact to our band name, but our fans know that what we’re all about is getting together in the same room and celebrating our shared ideas.” He said the band loved the energy of the crowd. He said he and the band got to the event at about 8:30 p.m. “The fans were great, the crowd was cool, we can’t wait to come back again.” “Eureka was the nicest gig we’ve ever had,” Dictor said by phone. On Monday morning, lead singer Dictor contacted The Times-Standard. His social media posts were in reaction to a poster of the event with the headliner Millions of Deceived Citizens, a punk show produced by DisBeatCrasher, and including local acts Dullahan, Cross Contamination and The ChainLinks.Īccording to the official website, Millions of Dead Cops, known by their fans as MDC, “is an American punk rock band formed in Austin, Texas in 1981.” On Twitter, the chief wondered if the millions was in reference to the Holocaust.
