Every click is followed by 2-3 seconds of animation. The puzzles are awfull too (for the most part) Amazing how anybody thought it was fun or an actual challenge while testing or during development. You don't need to do it anyway because all you need is one spell of each color to be able to deal with all types of shield, even on hard the fights are a breeze until you get ganged up by alot of targets, and with no way to deal with multiple guys at once at that point it becomes a chore of dodging for a long time until you get one little window of barely damaging one guy. Combat is dull and repetitive and despite this they still chose to limit you to 4 magic slots/loadout, you have a total of 4 loadouts but switching between them during a fight with controller is clunky and slow. Gameplay is boring at best and frustrating at worst. Incredibly boring, designed by suits video game. This game is like the McDonalds of open world RPG games, it hits the spot but you'll walk away knowing you could have consumed a much better product. I think almost everything in Hogwarts Legacy is very competently done, but that doesn't stop it from feeling incredibly formulaic. If you have played literally almost any other AAA open world RPG, you've no doubt already experienced much of the type of content on offer here. The world is beautiful (Seriously this is definitely one of the best looking games currently on the market) and full of stuff to do, but most of that stuff is superficial and once again, very quickly gets repetitive. Most of the characters aren't interesting either and this is especially the case for the protagonist who has as much personality as a piece of cardboard. The story isn't interesting and while part of that is due to the fact that I know virtually nothing about Harry Potter outside of this game, I'd also chalk that up to the story in this game just not being very good. The combat while fun for awhile, has gotten EXTREMELY repetitive and easy (And it's not like the game was very challenging to begin with). I had a lot of fun with this game for awhile, but after getting halfway into the story and having done a good amount of side content, I've just gotten bored. In many ways, it reminds us of the Fable series of RPGs for Xbox and PC - there's something to behold everywhere you go.First of all my Steam playtime isn't accurate, my actual in game time would be around 22 hours. Rarely is there anything in the game that isn't useful, and that's its main charm. Collecting them also gifts you different customisation skins for clothing and the like. There are also collectibles just about everywhere, including pages for the field guide you carry around with you, that serves as an encyclopedia on all things Hogwarts. The school itself also house many puzzles, including brain-teasers and those that are timing-based. We can imagine these being a bit tough for smaller children. There are Merlin challenges scattered around outside the walls of Hogwarts that are solvable using different spells, some require you to dash between columns though that lower into the ground and rest if you're not fast enough. Most are optional and there to reward you with extra items or in-game cash, but some can be a little tricky to solve, while others require quite a bit of controller manipulation. Where the youngest might struggle though is in the puzzles. It can also present a decent challenge at the highest difficulty level, and with four to choose from - story to hard - there should be enough there for all ages. Later into the 10-hour tutorial period of the game, you'll also get to assign talent points that will power-up your spells and skills, and unlock other handy tools - such as the option to select additional spells through an on-screen directional menu. It soon becomes apparent that you are no mere witch or wizard though, as your past and connection to the world of "ancient magic" are part of the mystery tour you'll undertake.Īlong the way, you'll learn of a large array of defensive, offensive and useful spells from the teachers and professors at the school, plus acquire countless items of clothing from chests and fallen enemies that'll boost your character's ability to dish out and take damage. You create a character from scratch, choosing your gender and look, even the pitch of your voice, although talents and spells come later - so everyone essentially starts with the same basic set of skills and abilities. This enables the game to feature more mature themes and offer a robust combat system that includes the sort of peril that wouldn't feel right if the protagonist was 11. You play a brand-new attendee of Hogwarts, who has the largely rare honour of starting school as a fifth year student, and so is around 15 years old.
